This Wildlife Garden is situated in Kensal Rise, NW10. Overview ‘Natalie had a love of plants and wildlife. The designer skillfully combined paved walkways and large flower beds in this once mundane rectangular garden - now a haven for insects and the green-fingered owner.’ Andrew, Spruce & Bloom
Client Our client had been living with a rather plain and typical lawned garden for a number of years. Dreaming of looking out on to a lush and flowery space, she decided to take the plunge and organise a re-design. The brief included a need for easy access, shed area, structures for growing scented climbers and some form of lawn. A wonderful design was produced which incorporated all of these requirements and more.
Specification Our task at Spruce & Bloom was to interpret the master plan and carry out the hard and soft landscaping. We are used to working with garden designers, and the need to keep up communication; as there are often decisions to be made during projects between the various parties involved. The paved areas in this instance would provide the structure and would link the garden together as a whole. Tumbled paving blocks were chosen for their uniformity yet weathered look; the abundance of flowers would eventually give the space a cottage garden feel, and the pavers complemented this perfectly. Pergolas were created and sited in each corner of the space to allow for the important scented climbers. A small curved lawn provided a visual break in the hard surfaces and was perfect for Natalie’s young nephew when he came to visit. The hard landscaping in this garden provided the blank canvas upon which to add a wide array of nectar rich flowers, perennials and climbing shrubs. Single-flowered plants, situated en masse by colour and scent encouraged an abundance of insects to visit this city garden. Asters, sedums and Echinacea plants are all perfect for encouraging bees. The final pictures show the garden only one year on from completion.
Client comment ‘I can’t thank Spruce & Bloom enough – you have helped create an amazing garden which is now full of bees, butterflies and other insects. Thank you so much for all the hard work.’ Natalie |
